Tackling your finances can make you feel overwhelmed and anxious. Take time to invest in yourself and improve your financial literacy. Start by increasing your knowledge. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Your finances won’t be where you want them in a day either. One of the first steps is to know your current financial situation. Make a list of all your debt versus your income. Check your credit score and know where you stand. You can use CreditKarma.com or creditsesame.com to obtain a free copy of your credit score. Also once a year you are entitled to a free credit report from each of the three main credit bureaus. You can obtain those free reports by logging into annualcreditreport.com. Set goals and give yourself an adequate time frame to reach your goals. Utilize all the free financial resources at your disposal. The two best sites I found were Saver Life and The Penny Hoarder. Both sites had really good articles that I could understand. They helped me to set realistic goals for my finances. Once I started to understand how to improve my financial behavior, I was able to make small but significant steps towards financial freedom. Utilize the resources that are readily available and free or low cost. The Intuit Mint app is an amazing budgeting guide app. It is very user friendly and not only allows you to see what your budget is but it actually provides guidance on ways to improve your budgeting. It’s a free download in your app store and is the most comprehensive budget app I have come across so far. Now that you have your feet firmly on the ground and you know exactly where you stand, it’s time to actually process the plan. This is the real hard part. You have to stick to your budget and pay off or pay down your debt. It’s not fun, it’s not tasty but it is OH SO REWARDING once you have a credit score you can be proud of and bills that are paid on time and in full! I promise it’s worth it! I am sure you will see debt consolidation companies out there that offer to decrease your debt for a fraction of the debt for only a fraction of what you owe, but I want to strongly caution you here. There are several reputable companies out there but there are a few that are nothing more than a scam, so please be mindful and do your research. There are generally one of two ways that people tackle paying down or paying off credit. You can pay your highest balances first which are generally the balance is better accruing the most interest. This is called the Avalanche effect. the other option is the debt snowball effect. With this method, you pay off your smallest balances first all while making minimum payments on all balances which helps you see results quicker usually. both of these methods are very effective ways to get your debt in control. Below is a table that helps to explain the differences between these two methods further along with a link to a great article from Dave Ramsey.
Sticking to your plan and not beating yourself up too bad if you make a mistake is the best way to get your finances on track quickly and efficiently. The path to success is a bumpy one but you got this! Remember knowledge is power so soak up all the education out there. I have included some free resources that I have found to be super helpful and easy to understand.

It’s recommended for ages 6 and up.which seems appropriate based on our experience. Pixicade has created a unique game that fosters creativity, STEM skills, and encourages problem solving. The app is easy to use. I really enjoyed it.
